Women wrote more classics than we learn about in school. Introducing my new project, which celebrates overlooked and unknown female authors: Chick Lit THIS.
How did this project begin? I’m a poet and author, but for a living I am a freelance editor and creative person in general. One of my regular clients assigned me to come up with a list of 100 classic books published before 1923 (and therefore in the public domain). My feminist self made the executive decision on their behalf that half the list would be, well, not white men. Remember those anthologies and text books in English class that were all white dudes with only one or two women? Enough of that.
I wasn’t sure I’d be able to find that many, but guess what–I did! Chick Lit THIS is an ongoing project to present the most diverse group of female authors and poets possible, with only the occasional Austen/Brontë.
